BI to Revise Single Bank Ownership Rules
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Central Bank’s plan to revise the single presence policy has been welcomed by a number of market players. The revision is critical in order to adjust the recently released Bank Indonesia Regulation (PBI) on stock ownership limitation so that there is no overlapping, chief economist of Bank Negara Indonesia, Ryan Kiryanto told Tempo on Saturday. In addition, the banking sector needs legal certainty. "It's related to plans of future consolidation, divestment, and bank share acquisition," he explained. This policy revision does not signify that the central bank is unprepared and has not anticipated the impact of the new rule. "BI is taking just the right measure to ensure future bank regulations will be compatible," he said. Bank Indonesia will revise the single presence policy immediately as a follow-up to the PBI on Commercial Bank Shareholding, issued on July 13, 2012. ROSALINA
