FPI Ignores Order Prohibiting Ramadan Raids
TEMPO Interactive, Cirebon:Despite Cirebon Mayor Subardi’s request that Muslim community organizations avoid raiding nightclubs during Ramadan, the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) says it will forge ahead.
The FPI will continue to raid nightclubs they suspect will not close during Ramadan. "We will continue raiding," said FPI Cirebon chair, Habib Al Habsyi, on Thursday.
According to Habsyi, the FPI will raid entertainment venues that stay open during the holy fasting month. "We hope employers will comply with the rules and regulations set by the government on the closure of entertainment places during the month of Ramadan," he said.
The FPI’s plan is clearly against the mayor’s recommendation. "There is no need for raids,” said the mayor. “Simply notify us and we’ll certainly follow it up immediately.”
Any violations to the law should be handled by the police, said the mayor. The mayor has issued a memo on the closing of night spots to begin three days prior to and after Lebaran 2012.
Cirebon Police chief Adjutant Senior Commissioner Asep Edi Suheri supported the major comments. "If you come across any violation, please coordinate with the civil service police unit (Satpol PP)," he said.
