Megawati: “Coalition Is Not Joko Widodo’s Concern”
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian Democratic Party for Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri had no objections to Joko Widodo, candidate for governor of Jakarta, meeting with his political rivals in July 11, 2012. According to Megawati, Joko Widodo’s meetings would be no more than mere political friendship. "Yes, it is not a problem. Just another get together," said Mega in Kebagusan, South Jakarta. Mega, however, minded if a meeting between Jokowi and a candidate from PKS, Hidayat Nurwahid, for example, was said to be related to the PDIP-PKS coalition. "It's not that easy. Coalitions is not Jokowi’s concern; it’s the party’s business," said Mega. "It will be handled by the DPP (Central Leadership Council) of the parties." According to Mega, any possible collaboration will be discussed at DPP PDIP. All political changes related to coalition in this electionwill be decided by the party meeting. "Besides, everything is reported and the results are always discussed and decided at DPP PDIP meetings," said Mega. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 morning, Megawati and her husband, a senior politician of PDIP Taufiq Kiemas, exercised their voting rights in Kebagusan. On her visit to Poll Booth 031 located across from her house, she was escorted by candidate number three who was backed by the PDIP-Gerindra coalition. On the occasion, Taufik said they were optimistic Jokowi-Ahok could win in two rounds. "Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here," he said. Taufik also predicts that the Jakarta gubernatorial election this time will take two rounds. "Pray, please. In principle, will win. God willing. If it’s like this (crowded) in other places, well, will win," he said. Megawati was wearing a green-brown plaid blouse with long black pants, while Taufik Kiemas was sporting blue, long-sleeved shirt and blue pants. Mega’s vote number is 270 and Taufik’s 271.
