Bakrie’s Promises are Political Nonsense, Say Lapindo Mudflow Victims
TEMPO Interactive, Sidoarjo:Lapindo mudflow victims in Porong, Sidoarjo, say they doubt promises made by Aburizal Bakrie will be kept. Aburizal claimed that he would settle the compensation payments for mudflow victims no later than December during his declaration as the presidential candidate from the Golkar Party. The declaration was made at the third Golkar caucus in Bogor on July 1.
Paring Waluyo Utomo, a representative of the mudflow victims, said that Aburizal’s statement about solving the problems of the Lapindo mudflow victims was nothing but political nonsense. “Logically, the compensation settlement will not be completed this year,” said Paring on Wednesday.
Paring added that Lapindo had often broken its promises to the mudflow victims in regard to the compensation. Minarak Lapindo Jaya, through VP Andi Darussalam Tabussala, once claimed that the installments would be paid at the start of June.
“But we received reports from 28 people that have not received the compensation. They have not received any payment for nine months,” said the victims’ representative.
