13 Rivers in Jakarta to Be Dredged This Year
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Jakarta Emergency Dredging Initiative will be applied to 13 rivers in Jakarta starting this October. The project will be undertaken by the Jakarta administration in collaboration with the Ciliwung-Cisadane Center and Cipta Karya. The tender process was completed this July and involved 14 companies from 8 countries. “We will begin the dredging so that [the rivers] can channel water into the sea,” said Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo when visiting Cengkareng Drain on Monday. Fauzi said the dredging initiative was expected to reduce the risk of flooding by up to 30 percent. WAYAN AGUS P
