Erwin Syafitri, said that the Free Papua Organization(OPM) used home-assembled guns and pistols to shoot a Danyon 431 car and a village chief named John Yanafrom (30), in Keerom, on Sunday,July 1, 2012, at around 9:15 Central Indonesian Time (WIT). The shooting on Jalan Arso to Wembi, about 500 meters to Saweotami, happened so fast. Witnesses included Yonif Linud 431 Lt. Col. Indarto, Captain Hendra Cipta, Second Sergeant Rahman, Sergeant Joyo Lino, Kopda Roslan, Corporal Irwan, Corporal Patrai and Corporal Rianus. "First they shoot Danyon (Battalion Commander), but the car and its two escorts escaped," he said. John Yanafrom was shot riding his Honda motorcycle, the bullets hitting his head and chest. "OPM's headquarters are in the Yeti and Bewani, they could’ve headed there," said Erwin. His body has been brought to Bhayangkara Hospital for autopsy. "After the autopsy, the victim will be returned to his family in Keerom. When is up to the family," said Head of Public Relations, Papua Regional Police, Sr. Comr Yohanes Nugroho Wicaksono. He said the situation in Keerom is now improving. "It’s safe now.
