Dahlan Appoints Peter Gontha as Garuda Commissioner
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Dahlan Iskan has appointed Peter F. Gontha as independent commissioner for state airline company Garuda Indonesia. Dahlan believes that Peter, who is a businessman, is a suitable figure for the commissioner position. “Aside from being independent, he [Peter] has good business instincts,” said Dahlan in Jakarta on Thursday.
Dahlan added that Peter was a good businessman with good ideas. “If he has been appointed he should comply with it,” said the minister. Dahlan also said the commissioner appointment was made based on considerations of the company and the shareholders’ meeting.
The minister said that Peter would not be substituting anyone in his appointment because the company had decided to add another independent commissioner. In addition to Peter, former IBM Indonesia president director Betty Alisjahbana had also been named as an independent commissioner.
