Police Chief Resolves to Complete Investigations into Reporter Udin’s Murder
TEMPO Interactive, Sleman, Yogyakarta:Yogyakarta Police chief Brigadier General Sabar Rahardjo said it had formed a special team to uncover the death of journalist Bernas Fuad Muhammad Syafrudin aka Udin. The team is different from the one formed by former police chief, Brigadier General Untung Basuki in 2011.
"Who the members of the special team are is on a need-to-know basis. They’re secretly approaching people in Bantul to get to the bottom of the case,” said Sabar when reporting the performance of the Yogyakarta police during the first semester of 2012 at Sendang Ayu restaurant, Kalasan, Thursday, June 28.
Now that there is more than enough data and documents, the police will need to review them, including Udin’s writings before his death. Sabar said he would reveal Udin’s case before it expired on August 16, 2014. "We’re secretly approaching the people mentioned in the writings," he said.
Like his predecessor, Sabar asked the public and journalists for relevant data. "If you know who did it, please talk in private with me. There’ll be a special gift. Once revealed, the public will be happy," he said.
A member of an investigation team into Udin’s case called Kijang Putih, Heru Prasetyo, stated the Police Chief should not just make statements, he should simply take action. "Far too many police chiefs, far too many promises; far too few results; and then they are replaced," Heru told Tempo. If the Police Chief really had good intentions to open the case, he should simply look into the data the White Deer had previously provided and he should do so openly.
"No need for a face-to-face. People may think they have something to hide. No need for prizes either; they’re not important. Udin's life is much greater in value than any gifts," Heru added.
