North Konawe Regional Administration’s Treasurer Arrested
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Southeast Sulawesi attorney general’s office (AGO) has arrested Muhamad Akbar, the treasurer of the North Konawe administration, Southeast Sulawesi. Akbar was arrested at his residence in Kendari at 7 p.m. local time on Tuesday. Akbar is allegedly involved in a graft scandal linked to a clean water infrastructure development project worth Rp2.5 billion. Agus Sutoto, Southeast Sulawesi AGO chief, said that Akbar was arrested for obstructing justice. Akbar has been summoned properly three times but he never answered the summons. “We have summoned the suspect but he never answered; so we believe that he is obstructing justice and therefore, we arrested him,” Agus told Tempo. Agus said the corrupt funds were provided by the Southeast Sulawesi provincial government and were supposed to be used to build clean water infrastructure. However, the funds were deposited into regional cash and used for other purposes. Agus added that the suspect had violated Article 2 and 3 of Law No. 31/1999 on Graft in conjunction with Law No. 20/2011 on Corruption Eradication. AYU CIPTA
