Ten Merpati Airline Employees Questioned
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines, in the process of reforms, revealed that it was examining ten employees suspected of corruption. "They are being examined by the legal department," said Head of Public Relations Sudiarto Merpati, Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
Sudiarto was reluctant to name them, their positions and divisions. "It has not been proven yet that they were involved in corruption. It would be unethical to reveal any information,” he said. They continue to work as usual. "Poor them, if we’re too hasty in placing them under non-active status."
Sudiarto promised to announce the results once the examination had been completed. "This is a learning experience for us; anyone involved in corruption will be fired," he said.
According Sudiarto, of the 23 divisions in the company, three corruption cases are the most damaging. They include theft of jet fuel and aircraft parts, as well as corruption in ticket sales. "Bluntly speaking, we're trying to stamp out thieves in the company," he said.
