Police: Terrorist Hackers Successfully Collect $ 7 M
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Special Detachment 88 for Antiterrorism of the National Police are still tracing the involvement of a suspect in terrorism, Rizky Gunawan in other terrorist networks. They have recently found evidence that Rizky was involved in the Solo bombing network and the military training in Poso.
“He raises funds for terrorism. From the hacking he amassed up to Rp7 billion,” said Head of the Information Division of the Police, Police Commissioner Boy Rafli when contacted on Sunday, June 24, 2012.
Boy explained that Rizky raised the money by hacking a Multi-Level Marketing site and used Rp5.9 billion to buy assets in Medan, Rp667 million to conduct military training in Poso, and the rest to finance suicide bombings at Bethel Injil Penuh Church in Keputon, Solo. “He also set up funds for food and other logistics,” said Boy.
Rizky, Information Technology (IT) expert, was arrested by the police on May 3, 2012 in Gambir, Jakarta. On June 21, he and four colleagues, who were arrested in Medan and Bandung, were taken by Detachment 88 to show the Rp5.9-billion assets in Medan. However, Boy did not give details of on the identity of the four suspects.
Boy denied that Detachment 88 arrested four other suspected terrorists during the search and seizure of assets in Medan. Earlier information said that they had arrested Suwita (Rizky’s wife), Tomi Irawan, Kusnan, and Winangsah. “There was no arrest in Medan. Detachment 88 went there to confiscate the assets only,” he said.
These five suspects, according to Boy, are now back to being detained at Command Headquarters of the Mobile Brigade, Kelapa Dua, Depok. Detachment 88 is still investigating the role of each suspect and their connections to other terrorist networks. “For the time being, we’re focusing on the investigation of the assets and the two networks,” said Boy.
