Gas Price Hikes to Be Recalculated, Says Minister Jero
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The government will recalculate gas price hikes and their impact on industries. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik said that gas price hikes for the industry sector were inevitable due to price hikes in the upstream sector. Upstream, gas prices that were between US$2 and $3 per million metric British thermal unit (MMBTU) have reached $5 to $6 per MMBTU.
“The prices upstream have gone up,” said Jero at his office in Jakarta on Thursday. Jero noted that some industries did not mind if prices increased, as long as supply was guaranteed. However, some industries have also asked for the price hikes to be implemented gradually.
Jero explained that the price hikes must be fair. The decision made by the government should be impartial both to the upstream and downstream sectors. Jero added that the decision would not prioritize one sector, including state gas company PGN. “We want all parties to be secure and reap profits,” said the minister.
