Papua Police Reenacts Shooting of German Citizen
TEMPO Interactive, Jayapura:Police in Papua on Thursday reenacted the shooting of a German citizen, Dietman Pieper, outside a tourist lodge, in Port Numbay, North Jayapura District, Tanjung Ria Sub-District, Jayapura. The victim was shot at close-range by a short-barreled firearm.
“The motive for the shooting is being investigated,” said Deputy Chief of Police Brigadier General Paulus Waterpauw. Arrested was CW, driver of a silver Toyota Avanza. Two others, JW and BT, are still at large. “We’re still investigating the case. We’re still pursuing those who are on the run,” he added. In addition to examining the evidence, bullet projectiles, and a bloodied towel, the police also questioned. Eva Median, and Dietmar’s colleagues – Telda Yakadewa, Patrick Mano, Romario Kunep, among others – who were at the scene of the shooting.
The reenacment started at 09:00 eastern Indonesia time (WIT). CW was brought to the location with his hands cuffed. The incident started when CW together with JW and BT arrived at Base G beach of the tourist lodge on May 29, 2012, at around 11:15 WIT. After several moments, JW and BT got out of the car to slowly approach the victim who was relaxing with his wife, Eva Median, a Spanish citizen. From around 10 meters, shots were fired hitting the victim’s back, left chest, and left thigh. CW waited in the get-away car. “I didn’t see who fired the shots; I was in the car,” he said. After shooting, JW and BT ran into the car to flee the scene. Dietman Pieperwas taken to a hospital in Jayapura before being flown to Singapore for intensive care.
