Malaysia also Claims Rendang and Cendol
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Wiendu Nuryanti, deputy-minister of Education and Culture, said that other Indonesian products have also been listed on Malaysia’s cultural heritage list. “It’s not only the tortor dance and gondang sambilan musical instruments,” said Wiendu during a hearing with the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Commission X at the parliamentary complex in Senayan on Wednesday. Wiendu claimed there were four other Indonesian cultures listed on Malaysia’s cultural heritage list. “There were zapin dace, rendang [marinated spicy beef], gamelan musical instruments, and cendol [gelatinous desert made of rice flour],” said Wiendu. Wiendu added that cultures from other countries were also listed. “There were bhangra dance belonging to the Sikhs, bharata dance from India, and dragon dance from China,” Wiendu continued.
