How Much Money Did Jokowi Spend On Jakarta Gubernatorial Race?
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Running for Jakarta governor certainly calls for a great deal of money. Each governor candidate uses some of his wealth to fight for the number-one seat in the capital city. How much money does the Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Joko Widodo spend on the race? "Secret," he said when visiting Tempo office in Jakarta, Thursday, June 14, 2012. Jokowi only disclosed the estimated amount of money spent to enable him to win the election. "About Rp20 billion," he said. Where does such a huge amount of money come from? "From selling articles of clothing, from fund raising and from our own buddies. I also do have money after being an exporter for 23 years," replied this Mayor of Solo. As he is supported by PDIP and Gerindra, Jokowi assured that these two political parties, especially their politicians, donated money. "There's some from the parties, there's also a lot from individuals," he said. Jokowi also claimed he was supported by ordinary people. The contribution made by people from the lowest rung was not financial. They supported Jokowi as best as they could. "Just look at the kampongs. They made stickers, posters. The wordings are chaotic. There's no harm in putting up my handsome photos. But this, the photos are ugly and the slogans are a complete mess," he said laughing. MUNAWWAROH
