Rupiah May Strengthen to 9,350 per US Dollar
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:High expectations set by traders on the US central bank, soon to launch a monetary leeway program, has triggered the risk appetite of investors on financial markets. Investors have speculated that the Fed will grant a stimulus in its meeting this week.
Investors are speculating by getting their hands on assets that bear high risk and high profit, especially in the developing Asian market. The mood saw Asian stock markets strengthen over the weekend. As a result, regional currencies appreciated against the US dollar, including the Indonesian rupiah.
Apressyanti Senthaury, Bank BNI treasury research officer, said there were many uncertainties that would not see the rupiah budge from Rp9,400 per US dollar. However, Bank Indonesia has been consistently monitoring the market to maintain the rupiah, which improved to Rp9,398 per US dollar by the time the market closed.
