Questions over Why Historical Site in Manado is being Demolished
TEMPO Interactive, Manado:Claims by the local administration that Manado is a tourist city are being questioned after plans to demolish an important historical site were announced.
The site in question is the Japanese fort, or Veldbox, located in Dendengan Luar, Tikala District, which has been dismantled for development purposes.
Veldbox was the site for Japanese troops during the war against the Dutch army in Manado. The fort was located atop of a hill, which no longer exists due to recent ground leveling.
Tikala youth figure, Royke Anter, has expressed concern over the matter. Anter, who is also a member of the Manado Regional Representatives Council (DPRD), said that ground leveling should be banned by the regional administration because the historical site is closely related to the city of Manado.
