Lost Paradise in Tomori Bay
TEMPO Interactive, Soroako:Tomori Bay is a patch of paradise in the middle of Sulawesi, but the landscape has now been stained by sediment from mining activities in the area that have stirred up the clear water up to 500 meters off the coast.
With some snorkeling equipment, Jabar Lahadji, 42, swam in the Tomori Bay, Central Sulawesi, in early April. The warm waters did not stop him from shivering from fear that the bay he was swimming in was not the same as he had known as a child.
“The coral reefs are covered with sediment,” the member of the Morowali Regional Representatives Council (DPRD) and the National Mandate Party (PAN) told Tempo in Soroako in May.
