Fauzi Bowo: Cineplex Ad Not a Campaign Gimmick
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo denied the allegations that he was campaigning through movie cinema commercials regarding his achievements, as he gears up to run once again for Governor this year. According to him, the commercial was purely related to the 485th anniversary of Jakarta City.
"Basically on the occasion of [the city's] anniversary all residents should be thankful," he said after clarifying the value of his wealth at his official residence on Jalan Taman Suropati No.6, Central Jakarta.
Fauzi asserted that the commercial only disclosed facts. As advertised by the commercial, he said Jakarta's economic level rose by 5 percent on the average. Also there was a 3 percent increase in job opportunities each year.
"The current per capita income is over US$10,000 (over Rp90 million)," he said.
The video commercial received attention from, among others, gubernatorial candidate Hidayat Nur Wahid. This candidate, who is supported by the PKS (Just and Prosperous Party), asked the elections supervisory committee to stay vigilant.
"There is still an ambiguous interpretation of campaigning and public awareness campaign," said Hidayat after the verification of the amount of his wealth by the KPK team at his residence Tuesday, June 12, 2012,
