PLN Proposes Tariff Simplification
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:State electricity company PLN says its plans to simplify the existing electricity tariff groups by next year to ensure that electricity subsidies reach the intended target. In compliance with Presidential Decree No. 8/2011, there are 37 tariff classes organized into six groups: social, household, business, industry, government and special services. “We propose to expand the number of groups to 20 by 2013,” said Java and Bali operational director I.G.A. Ngurah Adnyana during a meeting with the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Commission VII on Tuesday. The six categories will remain under the new 20-tariff group system. However, tariff cuts will be determined based on the amount of electricity used. For instance, in the business category, there were six groups ranging from 450 VA with low current to 200 KVA with medium current. In the proposed system, the business category will only include three groups with a wider range of between 900 VA and 200 KVA. GUSTIDHA BUDIARTIE
