East Java not ‘Child-Friendly’
TEMPO Interactive, Surabaya:Sukesi, director of the East Java Province Women’s Empowerment and Family Planning Board, says East Java is not child friendly. Regional regulations and policies that fail to accommodate children’s needs, comfort and security, she says, are the reason the implementation of the 2012 Child-Friendly City program has stalled. “We keep publicizing the program and we hope that at least major cities in East Java will be willing to target improvements,” said Sukesi on Monday. East Java Province targeted 21 regencies and cities to be classified as child friendly by this year. Ten of the cities have begun implementing the program through adjustments made to child protection regulations and by facilitating social services targeting children. FATKHURROHMAN TAUFIQ
