Sudono Salim was 25th Richest Man According to Forbes
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Sudono Salim also known as Liem Sioe Liong, the Indonesian business tycoon that died in Singapore on Sunday, was among Southeast Asia’s richest men in 2004. According to Forbes magazine, Sudono was ranked 25th and was worth an estimated US$655 million.
Forbes magazine headquarters in New York also recorded that Om (Uncle) Liem who was born in Fujian, China, entered Indonesia in 1936, when the country was still known as the Dutch Indies. At that time, Liem joined his brother in-law Zheng Xusheng in Medan, North Sumatra, in the oil palm business.
In addition, Liem and Zhen were known to be the experts in high-quality tobacco trade as their products penetrated the global tobacco market. The two were also involved in the clove cigarette business.
