Sharp To Invest Rp 1.2T in New Karawang Factory
TEMPO Interactive, Karawang:PT SHARP Electronics Indonesia is working to construct a new factory with a capacity of more than twice the previous factory's. The company has invested Rp1.2 trillion to build this factory.
The 31-hectare factory is located at Karawang's Industrial International City. The factory plans to produce two types of electronic products, i.e. refrigerators and washing machines.
"This factory anticipates Indonesian consumers' demand for household appliances," said CEO of PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia, Fumihiro Irie, during the ground-breaking ceremony in Karawang, Thursday, June 7, 2012.
The factory, whose construction will start in July 2012 will go into operation as of 2013. The factory will employ 1,200 workers.
The monthly total production capacity is 220,000 refrigerators or 2.64 units per year. These figures are twice those of the existing factory. The total washing machines production capacity is 140,000 units per month or 1.68 million units a year. This capacity is twice and a half the capacity of the previous factory.
