TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Tenggarong District Court in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, has sentenced each of the three defendants in the collapse of the Mahakam Bridge to a year in prison on Wednesday. Prosecutors had demanded a year and eight months for each of the defendants in the case which claimed 22 lives when the bridge collapsed late last year. A total of 39 people were injured in the incident on Nov. 26, 2011. The three defendants were identified as Kutai Kartanagara’s infrastructure head, Yoyok Suriana, the project’s technician named Setiono and Syahrial Fahrurozi, from the Bukaka Teknik Utama construction company which had been in charge of the bridge renovation project. No charges have been brought against the chief of the Kutai Kartanagara district thus far. FIRMAN HIDAYAT
