BI to Apply Regulations for Majority Shares at Unfit Banks
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Bank Indonesia has set regulations for majority shares at unfit banks. The regulations also apply to new investments.
Central bank spokesman Difi A. Johansyah said the regulations would be applied to banks with low corporate governance scores. Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution made the remark during preparation for the National Banks Association’s (Perbanas) annual activities related to financial inclusion at Bank Indonesia on Monday.
“The point of [the governor’s] remarks was that banks with fitness and good corporate governance rankings of 1 and 2 will not be subject to the regulations,” said Difi. Banks ranked below 2 (3, 4 and 5) will have three periods to improve their condition. Banks are currently assessed every six months.
