MUI: United Time Zones Confuses Prayers
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI) chief has said the single time zone policy is not going to cause Muslim communities any problems. "But probably some segments of Islamic community will be confused with the changes in their prayer hours," said Ma'aruf at a press conference of the MUI Religious Edicts Commission Coordination Meeting at his office Saturday, June 2, 2012. The confusion will happen since some people should accustom themselves to the changed prayer hours. Ma'aruf said the Islamic community need to know only the designation of hours by the government. However, the prayer schedule based on the solar movement is not going to change. For instance, they would perform the maghrib (sundown) prayer when the sun sets. The government announced a couple of months ago that the time zones would be united based on the Central Indonesia Time (Wita). RAFIKA AULIA
