Bambang Pamungkas Selected as 2012 Olympic Torch Carrier
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Jakarta soccer Persija Team Captain Bambang Pamungkas is chosen as one of the carriers of the 2012 Olympic torch to be launched in London on July 27-August 12, 2012. This soccer player, 31, is selected to represent the Indonesian soccer community.
"I'm greatly surprised because I've never dreamed of going to the Olympics. This is an opportunity for me to represent Indonesian soccer," declared Bambang Pamungkas at a press conference at FX Plaza, Thursday, May 30, 2012. "I hope to go there in one team," he said.
In addition to BP, as Bambang Pamungkas is referred to, three other names were also chosen to represent Indonesia to carry the Olympic torch. They are entrepreneur Sandiaga Uno, politician Wanda Hamidah and women activist Ika Trifisusanti.
The four Indonesian representatives were selected by PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia, the official sponsor of the London Olympic Games. "They've made contribution and inspired the people," said Liliawati, PT Samsung Corporate Marketing Director.
