Semarang Councilor Sentenced to 2 Years 6 Months In Prison
TEMPO Interactive, Semarang:The Semarang Corruption Court sentenced Sumartono, a Central Java local legislator, to two and a half years in prison for bribery. The judge panel chaired by Ifa Sudewi ordered the Democrat Party legislator to pay a Rp50 million fine or do an additional five months in jail. "The defendant is guilty of an act of corruption collectively committed as charged," said Ifa Sudewi in court, Semarang, on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. The verdict on Sumartono is half the sentence demanded by the prosecutor who sought to have this chairman of Semarang DPRD Democrat Faction sentenced to a five-year jail term plus a fine of Rp200 million. Sumartono is proven guilty of receiving a Rp40 million bribe from Zaenuri during the deliberations on additional budget for civil servants' pay. When receiving the bribe on November 24, 2011, Sumartono and Agung were arrested by KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission). ROFIUDDIN
