SBY's Four Gifts for Workers
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:As Indonesian workers are observing the Global Workers Day which falls on May 1, coinciding with the event, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has prepared four gifts for them. "First, the limit of non-taxable income will be increased from Rp 1,3 million to Rp 2 million," revealed Muhaimin Iskandar, Labor and Transmigration Minister, after a closed meeting for labor day preparations held at the Presidential Palace complex on Monday, April 30, 2012. The second gift is the construction of workers' hospitals in Tangerang, Bekasi and Sidoarjo, and third, cheap transportation for workers in the industrial zones. “As a start, the government will soon purchase 200 buses for Tangerang, Bekasi, East Java and Batam,” he disclosed. Last but not least is the construction of cheap housing for workers. Public Housing Ministry is now said to be drawing a scheme. “It may be low rental flats or houses with the government aid for down payment,” Muhaimin added. Last week, Yudhoyono inaugurated a low cost flat for workers in Batam, Riau islands. "What's important is to revise the Ministerial Decree No 13 of 2003 regarding Labor as soon as possible. Outsourcing is also being closely monitored to prevent disadvantages to workers," he said. ARYANI KRISTANTI
