Angelina’s Alleged Role in Boosting Nazaruddin’s Construction Business
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The role of arrested graft suspect and legislator Angelina Sondakh in securing state projects linked to the Education Ministry for graft convict Nazaruddin has been recorded. The records, now evidence in the hands of the Antigraft Commission, comprise of BlackBerry Messenger service communication between Nazaruddin’s top aide, graft convict Mindo Rosalina Manulang, Nazaruddin and Angelina, in the past years.
In the messages, Nazaruddin expressed his annoyance when he heard that a hospital project worth Rp 116 billion at the North Sumatera University was won by another company. "Whom do we pay...?” Nazaruddin wrote. Mindo responded "I've already asked Bu Artis (Ms. Artist) and Pak Bali." During her trial, Mindo explained that “Ibu Artis” referred to Angelina, Sports and Education Commission and also Budget committee member, whereas Pak Bali was a codename for Wayan Koster.
A special route via Angelina and Wayan Koster proved effective. In Yulianis's testimony, throughout 2010, Nazaruddin's company managed to win hospital projects in three universities, namely Udayana University worth Rp 91,2 billion, Mataram University worth Rp 58,8 billion, and Jambi University worth Rp 37 billion, all funded by Education Ministry.
Nazaruddin's other company, PT Buana Ramosari Gemilang, also acquired a health equipment supply project with Hospital for Tropical Infectious Diseases at the Airlangga University, Surabaya, worth Rp 38,8 billion. At the same time, PT Duta Graha Indah also won a tender to supply services for the same hospital construction worth Rp 97,8 billion. PT Nuratindo Bangun Perkasa and PT Darmo Sipon, also belonging to Nazaruddin, were also involved in the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) and University of Indonesia (UI) projects, worth 11,4 billion and Rp 13 billion respectively.
But Angelina denied all of it during Nazaruddin's trial saying that during 2009-2010 she did not own the gadget. Her denial was countered by a number of witnesses. For example at the end of October 2010, Angie sent messages telling Mindo she was going to Magelang and asked for a donation of Rp. 10 million for Merapi victims. Angie later asked Mindo to transfer the said donation to a Mandiri account, which turned out to be of Lindina Wulandari, her secretary.
Other messages between Angie and Mindo where they talked about details of Angie's trip to the Netherlands around mid April 2011 were also verified by the Immigration Directorate's data showing Angie's travel to Holland in line with data in the messages. RIM, a Canada based BlackBerry producer, in response to the commission (KPK)'s inquiry, also verified that BlackBerry with PIN 20E342D9 basically belonged to Angelina. ****
