Health Minister Resigns
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced that he has accepted the resignation of Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih. "Ibu Endang formally requested to resign from her position some time ago to take care of her health,” said President Yudhoyono after visiting the Minister at the Cipto Mangunkusomo National General Hospital in Jakarta in the afternoon of April 26, 2012.
The Minister is undergoing a medical rehabilitation program and physiotherapy after going through radiation chemotherapy. Her medical team is still monitoring the condition of the Minister, who in October 2010 was diagnosed with lungs cancer, for which she has underwent medical treatment for about one and a half month, among others, a surgery and local radiation therapy.
President Director of the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, Akmal Taher, said that Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih maintains a high spirit in fighting off the disease. Endang has been hospitalized for more than 2 weeks.
Akmal said that Endang still needs intensive care, among others, food administration via intravenous infusion and physiotherapy, as her condition remains stagnant in the past week. “But by stagnant, I don't mean critical,” he added at the RSCM, on Thursday evening, April 26, 2012. Given the condition, she is not allowed to receive visitors. Co-ordinating Minister for Public Welfare Agung Laksono paid her visit in the morning.
