Presidential Advisory Board Steps In to Handle GKI Yasmin Dispute
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Presidential Advisory Board plans to begin mediation efforts to resolve the dispute over the Taman Yasmin Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) in Bogor, West Java. The GKI Taman Yasmin congregation and the Bogor Mayor Diani Budiarto are scheduled to meet at the Presidential Advisory Board offices next week. “The conflict between GKI Taman Yasmin congregation and the Bogor Mayor has been going on for too long,” said Albert Hasibuan, member of the Advisory Board for Justice and Human Rights, at his office on Wednesday.
Albert said that the mediation efforts will be conducted in order to prevent the dispute from expanding to even greater proportions. “I’m concerned because there are indications that the issue is beginning to shift to other matters,” said Albert.
In addition to the two disputing parties, the meeting has been scheduled to be attended by representatives from the Presidential Advisory Board and the National Security Council. Albert has promised to find a common ground for the two disputing parties—by asking the Bogor Mayor to obey the Supreme Court ruling over the church building. “So that the church can stay there and the GKI Taman Yasmin congregation can do their worship in the church,” Albert added.
