Lampung Forest Almost Depleted
TEMPO Interactive, Bandar Lampung:A 20-hectare urban forested region located in Bandar Lampung has almost be completely destroyed, after claims were made by Hasil Karya Kita Bersama, a company insisting that it rightfully owns the forested lands in question. In order to demand the issuance of certificates on the right to cultivate and the right to build within the urban forest region, located in Way Halim, 2,000 of the company’s employees visited the Lampung National Land Agency (BPN) on Tuesday. “The Land Agency must be fair and issue the certificates immediately because the company has undergone all the necessary procedures,” said Indra Mustain, the action coordinator, in Bandar Lampung on Tuesday. Arriving in eight trucks, hundreds of motorcycles and scores of public vans, the masses were dispatched by the company’s factory to storm the local BPN office. The employees have threatened to occupy the office until the certificates are issued. “We will remain here until our demands are fulfilled,” said the coordinator. NUROCHMAN ARRAZIE
