Vote-Buying Stains Elections in Timor Leste
TEMPO Interactive, Dili:Timor Leste began its quiet period on Thursday before presidential elections on Saturday. All further campaigns and efforts to gain votes were forbidden. However, at the Timor Leste guerilla veteran base camp, about 100 people were queuing for sacks of rice. A banner encouraging people to vote for a certain candidate was also present there. “We were only asked to come here and each family will receive a sack of rice,” said Armando Ximenes Sousa, 73, who was a farmer, as reported by Channel News Asia on Thursday.
