Minister Calls on Bulog to Absorb Farmers’ Rice
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Agriculture Minister Suswono has called on the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to immediately absorb rice from farmers. Although it is already the great harvest season, rice prices are far below the government’s set purchasing price (HPP). In his visit to Jombang and Lamongan in East Java, for instance, the price of rice was Rp3,150 per kg or lower than the HPP. Farmers told Suswono they struggled to sell their harvest to Bulog. Yet, there is a Bulog warehouse 1 kilometer away. “That means Bulog staff didn’t go to the field. The farmers’ rice price is below the HPP so it must be saved,” he said. ROSALINA
