Indian Turtles Repatriated
TEMPO Interactive, TANGERANG:The Soekarno-Hatta Agricultural Quarantine Agency has repatriated 19 Indian Star Tortoises (Gheochelone Elegans) to India. The protected animal was transported from Thailand without proper documentation on November 7, 2011. “There are 61 land turtles, 47 of which are Indian Star Tortoise,” said the agency head, Musyafak Fauzi, yesterday. As many as 27 turtles died upon arrival and one died during maintenance. The repatriation was the first to be conducted through Soekarno-Hatta Airport as a form of international cooperation.
