Are the Democrats Playing the Paranoid Angle?
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Ari Dwipayana, political analyst from the Gadjah Mada University, considers the Democrat Party of playing paranoid politics with regard to the issue of overthrowing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. According to Ari, the politics of paranoid was applied because Democrats are concerned about the government’s plan on raising fuel prices. According to Ari, the paranoid politics are conducted by Democrats as one of the efforts to possibly prevent protests against the government. “Such efforts are similar to the New Order,” said Ari, contacted on Sunday. However, Ari went on, the paranoid politics is considered to be one of the efforts to gain public sympathy to support fuel price hikes because, according to Ari, the plan to raise fuel prices is a controversial issue which is likely to disturb stability within the government. “They [Democrats and government] may use the issue of overthrowing to gain sympathy and public support,” Ari said. Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Djoko Suyanto said that he noticed indications of effort to overthrow President Yudhoyono. According to Djoko, the effort will take advantage of fuel price hike issue to mobilize the public. Djoko said that the information was received by the government from intelligence report.
