Gayus Tambunan Sentenced to Six Years
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Corruption Court judges charged Gayus Tambunan with six years imprisonment and a Rp1-billion fine on Thursday. If he fails to pay the fine, it will be replaced with an extra four-month jail term. The former tax employee was found guilty of four charges.
“The indicted is proven guilty of the criminal charges,” said the panel of judges chief, Suhartoyo. The verdict was lower than the charge of eight years.
Gayus was found guilty of four charges namely corruption, bribery, money laundering and bribing the Mobile Brigade Detention Home warden in Depok.
The six-year verdict adds to the total 28 years he will spend in prison. Gayus was previously charged with seven years imprisonment for a corruption case at the South Jakarta District Court. At the appeal, the Supreme Court increased the punishment to 12 years imprisonment.
Gayus or his lawyer, Hotma Sitompul, did not respond to the judge’s decision. “Nothing, Your Honor,” said Gayus after coordinating with his lawyer. “Enough, Your Honor,” added Hotma.
