Jusuf Kalla: “Fuel Price Increases is A More Rational Option”
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla has proposed that the government increase prices of subsidized fuel. The effort is considered to be more rational than restricting fuel consumption next year. “The regulation for fuel restriction is very complicated,” said Kalla in a seminar on oil and gas management on Thursday. The fuel restriction policy, according to Kalla, may trigger misuse. In addition, the option requires a complex administration system. The execution of the policy will not be simple either because it involves many elements. “This is how corruption occurs.” In addition to being prone to graft practices, fuel restriction will also leave room for misappropriation. Meanwhile, fuel price increase will have a different impact. The government, according to Kalla, only needs to announce the price increase. The option does not require any monitoring system like the restriction policy would need. “The best way is to raise prices [of fuel].” ALI NY | RAFIKA | SUBKHAN
