Farmers Protest Alcohol Waste
TEMPO Interactive, SUKOHARJO: Over a hundred farmers in Sukoharjo demonstrated in front of the local sub district office yesterday. They complained about the waste thrown by alcohol producers in the ditches around the rice fields that they claim affects their agricultural production.
A demonstrator, Sudadi, said the farmers did not complain about the crafters’ existence, but said the government must reinforce waste management regulations. This condition has been ignored for many years.
Mojolaban sub district head Basuki Budi Santosa, promised to resolve the problem. “We will gather related parties to resolve this,” he said. He will also meet with the industry and trade offices, the Environmental Agency and the alcohol producers.
