TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry together with the Forestry Ministry has agreed to accelerate geothermal exploration permits in Indonesia’s forests. As many as 28 points will be explored across Sumatra, Java, Nusa Tenggara, Busur Banda, North Sulawesi and Halmahera. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik said that 45 percent of the world’s geothermal potential was located in Indonesia. The areas are located in 276 points, which could potentially produce 29,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity. Meanwhile, only 1,196 MW or 4.1 percent have been utilized.
