Bambang and Busyro Are Strong Candidates for KPK Leadership
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The House of Representatives’ (DPR) Law Commission are divided in their opinion about who will chair as commissioner of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). There are two strong candidates ready to compete: Busyro Muqoddas, the current KPK chief, and Bambang Widjojanto. The latter was said to be a strong candidate after passing the fit and proper test with flying colors. Despite no official decision being made, politicians from all factions have stated their approval of Bambang Widjojanto.
Support for Bambang Widjojanto emerged from Golkar and the Democrat Party. The ruling Democrat Party has included Bambang Widjojanto in the shortlist of candidates for KPK leadership along with Busyro and Yunus Husein. Didi Irawadi Syamsuddin, a Law Commission member, said the three have strong leadership characteristics. However, Didi said, the Democrat Party is rooting for Busyro because, aside from his strong leadership characteristics, Busyro is a senior. Didi said that he was not offended by Busyro’s remarks which attacked the DPR and government officials. “That is a moral message,” Didi added.
Meanwhile, Trimedya Panjaitan, member of the DPR Law Commission, said that Busyro’s fate lies on his ways of convincing the DPR. “Busyro has a pretty good chance. His chance of being re-elected is fifty-fifty,” said Trimedya who also believed that appointing a chairman was not easy task. “We want to avoid making the same mistake as we did with Antasari,” Trimedya added.
