Rowing Competition Canceled, Foreign Parties Call This Worst SEA Games
TEMPO Interactive, Karawang:The unprepared SEA Games arena has resulted in the cancellation of the rowing competition. The venue in Situ Cipule in Karawang, West Java, could not be used because the construction of the finish tower has not been completed.
The rowing competition manager Ahmad Sidik said the three-storey building was vital. “The finish tower determines the winner of the international rowing competition,” he said.
The committee and seven participating countries have agreed to postpone the competition and take out the elimination round because the venue already has seven tracks, allowing the finals. “Five numbers would be held today to compete for the gold medal,” said Sidik.
In Jakarta, problems with the SEA Games competition have spread to the service for contingents. “Three soccer players staying at the Sultan Hotel have suffered from food poisoning,” said Hotel Sultan’s Communication Marketing assistant director, Ribkha Anastasia.
An official from the Philippines contingent, Julian Camacho, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Monday that this was the worst organization of the Southeast Asia sports event, adding that the accommodation and transportation were the biggest problem.
