Police Transparency Required Over Freeport Funds
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The police are asked to immediately give explanation to the public with regard to the US$14-million or IDR140-billion worth of ‘security funds’ from PT Freeport Indonesia. “Because it has been revealed to the public, then, it must be accounted for publicly,” said Pramono Anung, the House of Representatives (DPR) deputy-speaker, on Monday. Pramono said there is nothing new about funds distribution from companies to police officials. However, in an era of transparency, all received funds must be informed to the public. “If they cannot account for the funds, it will be detrimental for the police,” Pramono added. Furthermore, Pramono continued, incapability of transparently informing the public about the use of funds will hurt the people’s trust. “Especially, the people of Papua.” ALI NY | IRA GUSLINA | PARLIZA HENDRAWAN| ALWAN RIDHA | AKBAR TRI K | FIRMAN H
