TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta chapter of Gerindra party head Mohamad Taufik said his side and its counterpart of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) have reached an agreement during a meeting related to the candidate of Jakarta deputy governor held on Monday afternoon, November 5.

“First, Gerindra and PKS agree not to deride each other in light of the position of deputy governor,” said Taufik in Gerindra Jakarta office in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta on Monday.

The second agreement, Taufik continued, PKS and Gerindra would support Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno in the 2019 presidential election. Gerindra Jakarta and PKS Jakarta would focus on campaigning the candidate number 02 in the capital city.

“[We] will fight with all power and efforts to win Prabowo-Sandi in Jakarta,” said Taufik.

Both parties would also form a team to establish a fit and proper test for the candidate, and that means the candidate would undergo an earlier test before being proposed to Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.

The last point on the agreement as claimed by PKS through PKS Jakarta head Syakir Purnomo was the candidate must be from PKS cadre. According to Syakir, the point was agreed in a bid to support the point number 2.

However, Taufik was not firm in confirming the last point. According to the former corruption convict who was passionate to occupy the position, PKS cadre perhaps could not pass the test. “Gerindra has an open chance. If [the PKS cadre] do not pass the test, we will discuss it again,” said Jakarta Regional Legislative Council deputy speaker.

PKS and Gerindra had long made arguments on who would replace Sandiaga Uno in leading the capital city Jakarta. Both parties deemed to have rights as parties who supported Anis Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno in the 2017 regional election.
