TEMPO.CO, Nusa Dua - The Indonesian government and Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba have agreed to sell five local products through its platform on November 11. The five products are Luwak Drip from Kapal Api Coffee, Richeese Nabati biscuit, Papatonk Premium Shrimp Crackers, Yang TyTy Sarang Burung Walet (swift’s nest), and Indomie noodles from PT Indofood.

The Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto said the government and Alibaba chose the five products because of their large production. Besides, the Alibaba team selected the products based on consumers’ preferences.

“It is time to sell the high-quality product in large quantity. We prepare the products that [the producers] can handle unlimited orders,” said Airlangga after the meeting with Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, in Legian Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, Saturday, October 13.

On November 11, Alibaba would hold online shopping day which was commonly called Single Day. Last year, the promotion program booked US$25 billion sales in a day. Indonesia attempted to take benefit of the moment by promoting local products to the Chinese market.

According to Airlangga, the partnership would be a beneficial pilot project for both parties. “Alibaba can observe how Indonesian product is. And producers will see how their products can enter the Chinese market,” the minister added.

Should the first collaboration succeed, Airlangga continued to say, the country’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) would provide other products to be promoted through Alibaba, in a special feature of Paviliun Indonesia.
