TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Bekasi’s Apartment Center Point in South Bekasi was recently raided by police after the apartment had been suspected of housing prostitution practices based on its affordable rent.

“Renting a room for a whole day and night doesn’t cost more than Rp500,000,” said Cecep Suherlan, Bekasi’s Public Order Agency (Satpoll PP) Head on Tuesday, October 10. “It is even way cheaper compared to renting a hotel room.”

Satpol PP had long suspected prostitution activities taking place at the apartment since ads offering the services of escort girls crowded the social media realm that linked back to the apartment. Bekasi authorities proved their suspicion after raiding the apartment on Saturday night.

Police apprehended 21 escort girls, three hustlers, numerous condoms, cash, and three cellphones that were used to support the prostitution practices. Police also identified several suspects that were known throughout the social media realm.

Furthermore, Bekasi police together with Satpol PP pressed apartment managements to be more selective upon accepting its tenants and not just consider the financial gain of freely renting rooms without background checks.
