TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian para-athletic athlete Sapto Yogo Purnomo, won the gold medal at the men`s T37 100-meter run, in the 2018 Asian Para Games, Tuesday, October 9.

Sapto set the record of 11.49 seconds that broke the Asian record of 11.51 seconds by the Chinese athlete Yongbin Lian.

Sapto became the best after defeating Iranian athlete Davoudali Ghasemi with 11.97 seconds record, who won a silver medal, and Saudi Arabian athlete Ali Alnakhli with the record of 12.01 seconds and bagged a bronze medal.

The Asian record of men’s T37 100 meter run was held by the Chinese athlete Yongbin Liang, with the record of 11.51 seconds at the 2012 Paralympics, in London, England.

“I don’t think about anything, not even the record. I just run, the important thing is to become number one. It’s in line with my target, but hopefully, I will be faster. In the final practice before the 2018 Asian Para Games, I managed to achieve 11.50 seconds record,” said Sapto.

The gold medal was the second gold medal for Sapto after on Monday, he also became the best in the men’s T37 200 meter. 

Indonesia has collected eight gold medals at the 2018 Asian Para Games. Four of them are from the para-athletics, the rest are from table tennis, para-swimming, para-bowling, and para-badminton.
