TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2018 Asian Para Games has commenced since Saturday, October 6. The opening and first day of the match were not as crowded as those of Asian Games in August. The ticket sales for the opening ceremony and the festival were also lower than those for the Asian Games.

"The reason of why the public didn't watch the Asian Para Games match is because of their pity to disabled people," a psychologist from Q Consulting, Rena Masri, explained. She added that there are still many people who felt pity seeing disabled people doing sport matches.

“But of course we must empathize and show our support for them, which is, for example, by watching the sports match,” said Rena Masri to Tempo, Monday, October 8.

The more viewers, the more spirit disabled athletes gained due to immense support. Rena suggested the dissemination of Asian Para Games must be detailed thus the public could understand the athletes’ profile and the kind of matches the athletes are competing.

The public needed information on several sports branches for disabled athletes that unfamiliar among the public such as boccia, lawn bowl, goal ball, and others. “Therefore, the public will be ready to watch the sports match in Asian Para Games,” Rena explained.
