Yogyakarta to Celebrate National Batik Day with JIBB 2018

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - A major festivity upon welcoming the National Batik Day entitled “Jogja International Batik Bienalle 2018” or JIBB 2018 is set to be held from October 2 – October 6 along numerous locations throughout Yogyakarta.

It will showcase numerous events from exhibitions, national and international symposiums, natural coloring workshop, heritage tour, carnival, and of course a fashion show.

“The plan is to have the event inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the KEraton Yogyakarta on October 3,” said JIBB committee leader Tazbir on Tuesday, September 25. This event is also set to be attended by the President of World Craft Council (WCC) Dr. Ghada Hijjawi Qaddumi, and President of ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development Association (AHPADA) Edric Ong.

Numerous events within the JIBB 2018 have actually kicked off with a roadshow in numerous Indonesian batik cities in Java and Madura in September and will end in Yogyakarta on September 29, while the peak event will be held in October 2-October 6. “The series of JIBB 2018 events is hoped to reestablish Yogya’s representation as the World’s Batik City,” said Tazbir.

Yogyakarta currently bears the title of the World’s Batik City by the World Craft Council (WCC) that is affiliated with UNESCO on October 18, 2014 at Dongyang, China.
